 George Tingwald, MD, AIA, ACHA | TrusteeGeorge Ruhl Tingwald, M.D., brings the unique combination of qualifications as an architect and experience as a doctor of medicine. He is committed to healthcare design that merges excellent medical functionality with the primary needs of patients and families. Dr. Tingwald has medical and design experience in all aspects of healthcare delivery, with special training in surgery and its ancillary services, emergency medicine, women’s and children’s health, and the development of campus and hospital master plans. Throughout his practice, Dr. Tingwald has been involved in the special needs of large teaching and research institutions, often in complex urban locations. This work has involved facilities both within and outside the United States, and in U.S. cities with complex multi-cultural constituencies. Dr. Tingwald has lectured extensively on many aspects of healthcare design, and is especially interested in the integration and blurring roles of medical specialists due to evolving technologies. He is a leading figure in the programming, planning, and design of integrated emergency, imaging and surgical services that utilize recent and anticipated technological developments. He is on both the clinical and architectural subcommittees of the AIA Healthcare Guidelines Revisions Committee, and a founding member of the American College of Healthcare Architects, where he serves on the Curriculum Steering Committee. Dr. Tingwald received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago; a Doctor of Medicine from Ohio State University College of Medicine; and a Master of Architecture from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. He conducted his internship and residency in general surgery at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and was a staff physician at the University Suburban Health Center at Case Western Reserve University. |
